The new QR code login feature in Knowledgehook makes it easier than ever for students to access their accounts. This guide will walk you through how to use this feature on both desktop and mobile devices.
1. Where to Find QR Codes for Teachers:
Teachers will see a one-time pop-up announcement about the QR code feature when they visit the class page if they have at least one student in their class. If QR codes are disabled for their class, a different announcement will appear.
-
Downloading QR Codes: Teachers can generate QR codes for their students by clicking the "Download Login Info" button. This generates a PDF with individual login cards containing QR codes for each student.
- If QR codes are disabled, the cards will not include QR codes.

Important Note: The PDF will include student passwords only if the teacher created them; if students set their own passwords, these will not appear.
2. Where to Find the QR Code for Students:
QR code login is also available on the Student Join Page (joinkh.com) and the Student Login Page. Here’s how it works:
- On Desktop: Students will see the option to log in using a QR code.
- On Mobile: The QR code option will also appear, optimized for smaller screens.

3. How Students Log In Using QR Codes:
When students reach the login page, they simply:
- Click the "QR Code" Button: This opens the device’s camera. When using QR codes for the first time, the browser will ask for permission to access the camera.
-
Scan Their Login Card: The QR code on their login card will be recognized, and they will be automatically logged in. The system will use the main camera—back-facing on tablets/mobile devices and front-facing on laptops/chromebooks.

Once scanned, students will bypass the usual steps (like entering a class code or password) and jump directly into the GameShow or other activities.
4. Managing Camera Permissions:
The first time students use the QR code feature, their browser will ask for camera permission. Students will need to click “Allow” for their camera to be able to scan the QR code. This request will reoccur if they use a new browser, clear their cache, or use incognito mode.
Ensure that the device’s camera is not being used by another application (like video conferencing) to avoid permission issues.
5. Troubleshooting:
If something goes wrong, here’s what students might encounter:
- Camera Not Detected: If the device doesn’t have a camera or the camera permission is disabled, an error message will appear.
- Invalid or Expired QR Code: The system will block login attempts with incorrect or outdated QR codes. Only Knowledgehook-generated QR codes will work.
1. Ensure the device has a camera, or if it does make sure the student enables the camera permissions when the browser asks for it. | 2. Make sure Students scan only QR codes provided by you. Scanning a non-Knowledgehook QR code will result in an error. | 3. Students need to scan the most recent or active QR code. Using expired QR codes will prevent future logins for added security. |
We hope this guide helps you and your students take full advantage of the new QR code login feature in Knowledgehook! If you have any questions or run into issues, feel free to reach out to your district’s Learning Success Manager or contact support@knowledgehook.com for more information.
