Stars, Points, and Badges

• Stars, points, and badges are student-facing progress features in Knowledgehook.

• Stars are earned in Missions when students answer questions correctly.

• Points, also called Experience Points (XP), are earned through activities such as attempting questions, uploading solutions, and answering questions correctly.

• Badges are earned as students progress through strands of Knowledgehook-created questions.

• The Knowledgehook Mathalon is available with ClassOS Pro and tracks student completion through stars.

In Missions, questions are grouped in sets of three on the student side. Students earn a star when they answer a question correctly on the first try. If they answer incorrectly, they can attempt the question again to earn the star.

To earn all three stars, students must answer the three questions correctly in a row. This provides an additional challenge and encourages mastery.

Points are awarded for several activities, including attempting a question, uploading a solution, and answering a question correctly. As students build points over time, they progress through Knowledgehook's League Levels.

Badges are awarded as students progress through strands of Knowledgehook-created questions. Custom questions do not unlock badges. Students can view a summary of their badges in their Profile.

The Mathalon is available in ClassOS Pro Knowledgehook. Like a marathon, it focuses on completion: students move toward completing the Mathalon as they earn stars.

Assign a Mission that includes Knowledgehook-created questions. Students can complete the questions in the Mission and earn stars for correct answers.

Students earn points by attempting questions, uploading solutions, and answering questions correctly. Points contribute to their progress through the League Levels.

When a teacher assigns a Mission containing Knowledgehook-created questions, the related strand becomes available to the student. Students can complete additional questions in that strand and track their progress toward earning a badge.

When students have difficulty earning the last star in a group of three, explain that they need to answer all three questions correctly in a row. They can try the three-star activity again; a blue star indicates the star they are missing.

Students can select the strand connected to a Mission to see more related questions and their progress toward larger badges. For example, a Mission may include questions from the Scatter Plots and Trends strand while making the rest of that strand available for continued practice.

Stars are a proxy for correct answers but are not a direct correlation, so they are not used in teacher reporting. On the teacher side, only correct or incorrect answers are reported.

💡 Pro Tip: Encourage students to revisit a three-question activity when they are missing the final star.
